Moving in together can either be the best thing for your relationship or it can be the absolute worst thing. It can either fill you with excitement or fill you with nothing but nerves. Whichever side you fall down on, the fact is that it feels like the obvious next step in your relationship.

But how do you know if you’re ready?

You Spend Every Night Together Anyway

Do you own a key to his house? Does she leave all of her stuff at your home? Does he have a wardrobe just for your stuff? If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, the transition to actually living together could be the natural next step. You both practically live at each other’s house anyway, so there shouldn’t be any reason why you both aren’t ready to move in together.

You’ve Been Together for a Long Time

We’re not saying that moving in together depends on the length of your relationship, as we’re aware that everyone is different. However, if you have been together for quite a lot of years, it’s likely that moving in together has cropped up once or twice anyway. You’ve given yourself a lot of time to get to know each other – we assume you both know the other very well by now. On the other hand, if you’ve only been together a month, we suggest you take more time to consider your choices. You don’t want to move in together and then realise you really don’t match.

You’ve had a Big Argument and Survived

All couples have arguments. This is completely normal and to be expected, especially when you spend a lot of time together. We think that the way you deal with an argument is an indication on whether you should really be considering moving in together or not. If you’ve had a big argument and managed to cool off and talk it out like adults, then we think that this is a really good sign that you’re at the point in your relationship in which moving in together is a good idea.

You’ve Been on Holiday Together

It might not sound like something that should help make your decision on moving in together but we think it can actually be a really important indicator that you’re ready. Going on holiday together is a crucial stage in your relationship – it means you’re both together 24/7 for a long period of time. If you survive the holiday without killing each other and even manage to have fun – you’re definitely on to something good!
